Overview

The Diamond DA42 NG is a four-seat, twin-engine land airplane used for multi-engine training and personal transport. Its two Austro Engine AE300 diesel engines, composite airframe, retractable landing gear, and modern cockpit create a different systems environment from a Seminole or a single-engine trainer.

This record covers a DA42 NG model basis. Engine installation, serial range, avionics, equipment, and current empty weight determine the applicable performance and loading data. The earlier TDI and later VI versions should not be silently combined with this page.

Performance

The model basis lists 150 kt cruise and 1,200 nm range. These figures are book values under the manual's assumptions. Power setting, altitude, temperature, wind, loading, engine condition, and reserve planning affect actual results.

The climb references are VX 78 KIAS for angle and VY 93 KIAS for rate. Multi-engine performance also depends on the configuration described by the relevant chart. The flight manual and engine-out procedures supply the controlling information.

V-speeds

The reference schedule lists VNE 194 KIAS, VNO 167 KIAS, and VA 124 KIAS at the maximum weight basis. The flap limit for this record is VFE 119 KIAS. Additional multi-engine speeds and procedures must be taken from the current AFM.

The VX, VY, and VA glossary entries explain general terms without replacing the DA42's procedures.

Weight and balance

The stated useful load of 1,500 lb provides useful room in a four-seat twin, but the actual aircraft's equipment and fuel distribution matter. The 50 gal fuel capacity, baggage, and occupants must be checked against both weight and center of gravity limits.

Use current empty weight, arms, fuel quantity, occupant weights, and baggage stations in a loading calculation. The weight and balance calculator is for training and reference only.

Training notes

The DA42 NG gives students experience with twin-engine systems, diesel engine management, retractable gear, and modern avionics. Those systems make it a distinct transition from the DA40 NG. Engine-out work, checklist discipline, asymmetric thrust, and the aircraft's actual limitations need to be taught from the assigned AFM.

Variants

The DA42 TDI and DA42 VI are related but use different engine and equipment bases. Keep separate records when the source documents and operating characteristics differ materially.

Sources

The structured values use the Diamond DA42 NG Airplane Flight Manual for the Austro Engine AE300 basis, with configuration context from EASA Type Certificate Data Sheet EASA.A.005. Confirm the applicable revision, serial range, and aircraft records before using any figure.
