This privacy policy explains what information Tools for Aviation collects when you use the site, how that information is used, and the choices available to you. The site is a free reference and utility for general aviation pilots. It requires no account, and most pages can be used without providing any personal information.

Information you provide

The only personal information we collect directly is what you choose to send through the contact form: your name, email address, and the contents of your message. We use this information to read and respond to your message, such as a data correction or a report of a calculator problem. We do not use contact form submissions for marketing, and we do not add you to a mailing list.

Calculator inputs, such as runway headings, wind values, or aircraft weights, are stored in the page URL and your own browser, not on our servers. Sharing a calculator link shares only what is already visible in that link.

Information collected automatically

Like almost every website, the servers that host Tools for Aviation keep standard access logs. These logs may include your IP address, browser type and version, device type, referring page, the pages you visit, and the date and time of each request. This information is used to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the site, and to understand aggregate traffic patterns.

We do not currently run a separate analytics product. If analytics or similar measurement tools are added in the future, this policy will be updated to describe what they collect.

Cookies and advertising

The site itself stores a small number of preferences, such as your color theme, in your browser's local storage rather than in cookies. Our cookie policy describes this in more detail.

Advertising on the site is served by third-party vendors, including Google. The following applies to that advertising:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the Internet.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info/choices.

For more detail on how Google collects and processes data from sites that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

If the site later carries affiliate links, clicking one may place a tracking cookie from the affiliate program on your device so that a qualifying purchase can be attributed. Affiliate links are identified and carry a sponsored attribute.

How we use information

We use the information described above to operate and protect the site, respond to messages you send us, correct errors in tools and data, and understand in aggregate how the site is used. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for third-party marketing.

When we share information

We may share information in limited circumstances: with service providers that help run the site, such as hosting and email delivery providers, under their own confidentiality obligations; when required by law, regulation, or legal process; and in connection with a sale, merger, or transfer of the site, in which case this policy continues to apply to previously collected information.

Data retention

Contact form messages and related correspondence are kept for as long as needed to respond to you and maintain a record of corrections and requests. Server logs are retained for a limited period set by our hosting provider and are then rotated or deleted.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect information transmitted to and stored by the site. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's privacy

The site is a general-audience resource and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Your choices

You can use the site without providing personal information. You can control or delete cookies and local storage through your browser settings, and opt out of personalized advertising through the links above. To ask for a correction or deletion of a message you have sent us, use the contact page.

Visitors outside the United States

The site is operated from and focused on the United States. If you visit from another country, information you provide is processed in the United States, where data protection rules may differ from those in your jurisdiction.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site changes. The "last updated" date at the top of this page shows the current version. Continued use of the site after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
