These terms of service govern your use of Tools for Aviation. By accessing or using the site, you agree to be bound by them. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, do not use the site.

What the site provides

Tools for Aviation is a reference and utility website for general aviation pilots. It publishes flight calculators, weather and airport reference information, aviation training content, a glossary of aviation terms, and directory listings for aviation services such as flight schools and designated pilot examiners.

The site is free to use and currently requires no account. Every tool and page is available without signing in, and calculator inputs and results are carried in the page URL so a configured calculation can be bookmarked or shared.

We may add, change, or remove tools, data, and pages at any time. We do not guarantee that any particular tool, dataset, or page will remain available.

For training and reference only

Every calculator, reference page, and data display on this site is provided for training and reference purposes only. Nothing on this site is an operational flight planning tool, a flight release, a safety determination, or a regulatory compliance check.

Before any flight, verify all information against the applicable Pilot's Operating Handbook or Airplane Flight Manual, current charts, NOTAMs, official weather products, and other authoritative sources. The pilot in command remains solely responsible for the safety and legality of every flight.

No calculator output on this site determines whether a flight is safe or legal. Where a result disagrees with the aircraft's official documentation, the official documentation governs.

Accuracy and data limitations

We work to keep the information on this site accurate and current, but aviation data changes and errors can occur. Airport, runway, frequency, and facility data is built from FAA sources published on a 28-day cycle and can lag real-world changes. Temporary changes published in NOTAMs are not carried on this site.

Weather displays show observations and forecasts with their original issue or observation times. A METAR is an observation, not a forecast, and cached weather is labeled with its age. Aircraft specifications and performance figures are book values for a specific variant under stated standard conditions, and your aircraft may differ.

Directory listings carry the date they were last verified. Listings can become stale between verifications, and a listing's presence does not constitute an endorsement or a guarantee of availability.

Acceptable use

You agree to use the site only for lawful purposes. You agree not to:

  • Scrape, harvest, or bulk-download site content or data by automated means.
  • Interfere with the site's operation, probe its security, or attempt to access systems or data not meant for public use.
  • Use the site in a way that degrades the service for other visitors.
  • Misrepresent an affiliation with the site or its operator.
  • Remove or obscure disclaimers, attribution, or source information from downloaded or printed outputs.
  • Reproduce substantial portions of the site's content for republication without permission.

Normal use is welcome. Sharing calculator URLs, bookmarking pages, and printing or downloading outputs for personal use are all permitted uses of the site.

Intellectual property

The site's design, original text, diagrams, and code are the property of Tools for Aviation and are protected by applicable intellectual property law. Airport and weather data drawn from FAA and NOAA publications are US government works in the public domain; attribution on this site is provided for transparency rather than legal requirement.

Your inputs are yours. Entering values into a calculator or sending a message through the contact form grants the site no rights over that information beyond what is needed to operate the service and respond to you.

Downloads and printed outputs

Where a tool offers a download or printable output, such as a weight and balance sheet or a nav log, you may keep and use that output for personal, non-commercial training and reference purposes. You may not republish generated outputs as your own work or strip them of their disclaimers.

The site links to external resources, including official FAA, NOAA, and eCFR publications. External links are provided for reference; we do not control and are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or practices of third-party sites.

The site is supported by display advertising served by third-party ad networks, and may include affiliate links. Affiliate and compensated links are identified and carry a sponsored attribute, and sponsored directory listings are labeled as such. Advertising and sponsored placements do not change calculator outputs, data, or editorial content.

Disclaimer of warranties

The site is provided "as is" and "as available," with all faults. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components, or that any data or calculation output is correct, current, or suitable for any particular use.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Tools for Aviation and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, revenue, or profits, arising out of or related to your use of the site.

This includes, without limitation, damages arising from reliance on a calculator result, an airport or weather data display, a directory listing, or any other content on the site. Because the site is provided free of charge, if you are dissatisfied with it, your sole and exclusive remedy is to stop using it.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of liability for certain damages. In those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the greatest extent the law permits.

Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page identifies the current version. Your continued use of the site after a revision takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from or relating to these terms or your use of the site will be resolved in the courts of the United States.
