WAI Harvard ScholarshipsHow to compare aviation scholarships
Read the eligibility rules before comparing award amounts. Check whether an award is limited by age, residency, membership, school enrollment, certificate level, or a specific training goal. A broad description such as “for pilots” may not explain which costs or applicants the sponsor covers.
Check what the award pays for
Sponsors may restrict funds to flight hours, a certificate or rating, tuition, equipment, or another stated expense. Confirm the payment method, any matching requirement, and whether funds go to the applicant, school, or training provider. Do not assume an award covers the full cost of a program.
Verify the current application cycle
Deadlines and application steps can change from one cycle to the next. Use the sponsor’s official application page for the current deadline, required documents, reference letters, and submission method. The date shown in a directory entry is the date its published details were last checked, not a promise that applications remain open.
- Confirm that the sponsor still offers the award in the displayed cycle.
- Check that your training stage and membership status meet the stated rules.
- Ask the sponsor how award funds are paid and which costs qualify.
- Use the sponsor’s current instructions if they differ from a directory summary.
