How to compare flight schools

Start with the training outcome you need, then ask each school how aircraft availability, instructor continuity, maintenance scheduling, and lead time affect that plan. An advertised program name does not tell you how quickly a student can book a suitable airplane or instructor.

Questions to ask before enrolling

  • Which aircraft are available for a typical student, and how often are they down for maintenance?
  • How far ahead do students usually book lessons?
  • Are rates published as wet or dry rental rates, and when were they checked?
  • What happens when an instructor leaves or a student needs to change schedules?
